My Kind of Magic5/20/2013

Project 4 is pleased to present My Kind of Magic, a group exhibition curated by Brooklyn-based painter, Beau Chamberlain exploring the varying studio rituals and techniques utilized by ten artists from New York, Washington, DC and Toronto. My Kind of Magic will feature works by Patrick Berran, Beau Chamberlain, Jay Davis, Jackie Gendel, Todd Knopke, Dave McDermott, Danielle Mysliwiec, Anders Oinonen, Graham Parks and Tamara Zahaykevich. Employing unique methodical techniques not always evident to the viewer, these artists create intricate details, dark expanses and discrete narratives. My Kind of Magic investigates these diverse practices; the intentional and accidental results that occur as artists attempt to manipulate their materials and an artwork develops from concept to finished piece. Happy accidents, mistaken drips and the play between chance and intent are explored and celebrated in this exciting collection of works.

Concrete Abstract: Seth Adelsberger, Lisa Dillin, Jeremy Flick, Steven Frost, Sue Johnson, Becca Kallem, Patrick McDonough, Danielle Mysliwiec and Matthew Smith March 1 – April 20, 2013 Opening Reception: Friday, March 1, 2013, 6-8pm Heiner Contemporary is pleased to announce Concrete Abstract, a group exhibition curated by Matthew Smith that explores the confluence of abstraction with the everyday, featuring work by Seth Adelsberger, Lisa Dillin, Jeremy Flick, Steven Frost, Sue Johnson, Becca Kallem, Patrick McDonough, Danielle Mysliwiec, and Matthew Smith. The works in the show cultivate a non-representational visual language that emerges from familiar ready-made objects, whether these objects are found or alluded to compositionally. Their formal and functional properties provide the contextual framework for works that are ultimately understood visually via their entanglement with abstraction, even as they remain securely tethered to the real, concrete world. 1675 Wisconsin Avenue NW Washington, DC 20007

Air Kissing: Contemporary Art About the Art World11/17/2007
Brainstormers has been included in this group exhibition at Momenta. Danielle Mysliwiec is a co-founder of Brainstormers.
Air Kissing: Contemporary Art about the Art World explores art world malaise, or the particular predicament of contemporary artists vis-ŕ-vis their relationship to the art world--specifically, artists' sense of dissatisfaction, criticism, and ambivalence. Granted, some artist gripes amount to water cooler chatter and others to sour grapes, but many are serious and legitimate grievances, often taking a demonstrable toll on artists' sense of purpose. Forced to navigate the precarious situation of desiring what they hold in low regard, artists have responded with self-deprecation, humor, sharp criticism, and a deliberate mix of high culture with low. Participating artists include: Alex Bag, Conrad Bakker, the Brainstormers, Lizette Kabré with Elmgreen & Dragset, Andrea Fraser & Jeff Preiss, David Hammons, Jason Irwin, Lee Lozano, James Mills, Elena Nemkova, Carl Pope, William Powhida, William Bryan Purcell, Mira Schor, and Amanda Trager. On view at Momenta Art November 16 - December 17, 2007. More information at www.momentaart.org.
